Paul Trotter

Paul Trotter

Practice Fellow | Brisbane

Paul Trotter has brought optimism and wisdom to all of his projects over the last 40 years with Fulton Trotter Architects. Appointed as a Director in 1995, Paul provided leadership across numerous exceptional health care, aged care, cultural and education projects.

With a passion for providing traditional architectural services, Paul demonstrated a commitment to developing long term client relationships and positively contributing to the built environment of regional communities.

Paul also has a great passion for educating young architects; and mentoring students and graduates has been a strong focus of his years in practice. In recent times, this has changed the direction of his professional life; lecturing as Sessional Academic and Adjunct Professor in design and professional practice subjects and winning a range of QUT teaching excellence awards.  Paul has recently accepted a permanent position at QUT School of Architecture and Built Environment as an ‘Associate Lecturer in Practice’ leading him to take on a new role at Fulton Trotter Architects. From October 2023, he will transition from Director and Owner to Practice Fellow in order to invest in this education space more fully.

As an architect with a keen interest in climate and implications for design, Paul has used this knowledge to enhance his creative approach, achieving design solutions that are more efficient and with a lower environmental impact.

Paul is an avid sketcher and creative who believes that the act of drawing enhances our understanding of both the built and natural realms. This artistic temperament finds its way into his creative designs for buildings and master plans.

As well as having had numerous and varied industry affiliations over the course of his career, Paul led the Queensland profession as the President of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects in 2018 and 2019.
