The Lockyer Valley Sports and Aquatic Centre was designed to replace an existing centre on another site that was outdated. Lockyer Valley Regional Council also wanted to lift the spirits of the community that had been devastated by the January 2011 floods.
Fulton Trotter Architects collaborated and consulted with 4 major groups that each had their own objectives. The council, who were the client, wanted a pool that had low ongoing costs.
The lessee required a low maintenance facility with good sightlines for supervision, while the swimming clubs and the public also had their own interests regarding safety and the range of facilities.
The final plan for the centre included a 50m pool, a learn-to swim pool, kiosk, outdoor dining, clubhouse and amenities. Working closely with a pool engineer we were able to establish and implement the most efficient water treatment service routes.
