The adaptive reuse of Feros Care’s Wommin Bay Village provided numerous updates to the facility to improve experiences of residents, families and staff while making the most of the spectacular coastal position and climate.

Fulton Trotter Architects has worked closely with Feros Care for over two decades, to assist them in continually improving their aged care facilities and services delivery. Whilst structurally sound, the existing buildings at Wommin Bay Village were over 20 years old and required an update to better meet the changing expectations of the market.
Early strategic planning and preliminary master plan work was undertaken as a first step, to clearly set out project objectives and determine how this first stage of works would fit into Feros Care’s longer term strategy for the site.
The refurbishment provided a fresh and modern beachside setting with a comforting sense of home. Works included an update to the resident areas within six residential houses, a refurbished community building and new external terrace and garden spaces. All upgrades were carefully programmed to enable construction within an operational environment, causing minimal disruption to residents.
The introduction of a new café in the community hub created a space for residents to catch up with friends and families as well as carry out celebrations. The café space opens out to a new outdoor terrace and sensory garden, which encourages residents, family members and staff to enjoy the coastal climate and watch the action on the neighbouring sports field.
