Nestled into a heavily treed hillside in Sinnamon Park is Wesley Mission Queensland’s first vertical aged care community – Dovetree Aged Care Community. Despite the institutional scale of the 7 storey, 144 bed facility, the planning arrangement creates private and public spaces that are residential in scale. The residents are provided with choice, autonomy, safety and familiarity, qualities of the resident-centred Eden Alternative philosophy that all Wesley Mission Queensland facilities are modelled off.
Central to the facility is a subtropical courtyard which is the unifying element for all wings of the building. The courtyard connects the facility to the densely vegetated site. It also accommodates family gatherings, animals, a playground, garden and other signifiers of ‘home’. On the same podium level as the courtyard is a therapies centre that is open to the public and provides a connection to the greater Sinnamon Village and wider community.
