Fulton Trotter Architects collaborated with Place Design Group on the adaptive reuse of the decommissioned Inala Wastewater Treatment Plant. This precinct is one of six priority projects that forms part of the Oxley Creek Transformation, an initiative of the Brisbane City Council to be developed over the next 20 years.

Archerfield Wetlands is a complex and degraded site, contaminated from past use and decades of neglect. It is also constrained by regular flooding, surrounding industrial uses, aviation and major roads. This project will enhance the neighbourhood and local environment by providing a new recreation, education and environmental regional parkland.

An intensive community consultation process was undertaken in order to respond to the public’s priorities. This process was successful in challenging the original project brief to ensure that the design response was an accurate and innovative reflection of the community’s core values and aspirations.

Fulton Trotter Architects led the design of the ‘The Atrium’ precinct. The design repurposes existing infrastructure within the landscape, telling the story of the site’s history whilst creating a dynamic new chapter for the brick and concrete tanks. ‘The Atrium’ encourages community engagement by blurring the lines of internal and external spaces and creating a platform for heightened enjoyment of these unique natural wetlands.

Fulton Trotter has been good to work with. They take a great deal of care and time to understand what the client needs and wants and give good advice to look after the client’s interest. The quality of their thought process and design resolution is excellent and they deliver high quality drawings and documentation.
