Fulton Trotter Architects have been designing schools throughout our 80 year history.

We are dedicated to providing not only well constructed, efficient and delightful school buildings, but also to contribute to the generation of educational ideas, through the innovative use of buildings and spaces.

We are an enthusiastic supporter of CEFPi, and we are regular delegates to its various conferences and seminars. We do this to continue our own learning in this field and, where possible, to add our own innovations to the industry.

Our work in the field is across state, catholic and independent sectors, as well as ranging from child care centres through to university projects.

Our clients hail predominantly from Queensland and New South Wales, covering urban, suburban, regional and remote locations.

The design of successful schools, in our view, involves a number of critical factors

  1. A design process which is highly collaborative with the educators who will use the facilities from broad concept down to the smallest detail.
  2. A master planned approach to campus development.
  3. A focus on flexibility of space usage, but with areas of focus which are unique to the needs of particular KLAs.
  4. An acknowledgement of the impact of technology on education systems and tools.
  5. An understanding of how scale, colour, and proportion, impacts on students experience of education.
  6. The design of student friendly external spaces and flow paths which provide shade and protection.
  7. Environmentally sensitive buildings and grounds which are comfortable in all weather conditions and are responsible in the use of natural resources.
  8. An awareness of the tight financial constraints of schools and funding authorities, and the prudent design for construction and maintenance costs this demands.

We have 3 offices with full Architectural 3D CAD capability and 50 staff to complete projects from large to small.
